Three outstanding ABCf scholars officially joined Batch 10 of the Select Universities Insurance Training Scholarship (SUITS) program, which kicked off on June 1.

Organized by the Insurance Institute for Asia and the Pacific (IIAP), SUITS is a specialized management training scholarship created for high-achieving new graduates.

The selection process for ABCf scholars began on March 27, when more than 30 ABCf scholars attended an online orientation to learn about the scholarship and its career pathways. Following a competitive evaluation, three standout students were chosen:

Danielle Ann Mejia (BS Business Administration - Financial Management)
James Earl F. Elorpe (BS Accountancy)

About the SUITS Program

The intensive program offers comprehensive instruction in both life and non-life insurance fundamentals, leadership development, and practical industry skills. Designed to bridge the gap between academic study and professional practice, SUITS prepares scholars to step directly into junior executive and management roles within the insurance sector.

​Batch 10 brings together a diverse group of scholars nationwide. While the majority of participants hail from Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP), the cohort also includes top talents from University of Santo Tomas (UST), De La Salle University, Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila (PLM), Philippine Normal University (PNU), University of Perpetual Help System, and University of the Philippines Diliman.

The program culminates on August 7 with Placement Day, an event where graduates meet directly with prospective employers. Due to the rigorous nature of the SUITS training, IIAP member companies are known to offer jobs on the spot during this event.

Our Scholar Says...

As a financial management student, I always dreamt that I would work for the bank someday; never once did I think that I could have a comprehensive training program in the insurance industry. It was all just a side quest for me back when I applied for the SUITS (Select Universities Insurance Training and Scholarship) Program as I waited for our graduation ceremonies. I thought that it was just an additional internship for my resume— until it was not.

The program is for a new batch of students that will be the future leaders and generation of the insurance industry. We were honed to present ourselves well in front of intimidating people and spoke to the executives of various companies. We had individual presentations and the nerve-wracking revalida. But, after all of those sessions, we always go home with smiles on our faces because we learned something that school never taught.

IIAP provided us the maximum help to guide us in our lessons. We had seminars that were administered by tenured and veteran people from the industry. We even had one-on-one sessions and group discussions so that we could learn from each other. We also had sessions for Professional Image Development, Values Integration and Communication Skills. They built necessary skills for our future.

Above all that, IIAP always cared for our well-being and made sure that we are in our best state of learning capacity.

We are excited to announce a new milestone in our mission to support promising students! On February 12, our team met with representatives from Marikina Polytechnic College (MPC) to finalize our upcoming scholarship program for the new academic year.

We were warmly welcomed by Dean Marie Luvett Goh (Dean of the College of Engineering) and Mr. Kairo Co from the Admission and Scholarship Office. Both expressed great enthusiasm and gratitude for the partnership, which will open doors for a total of 25 scholars—20 incoming freshmen and 5 graduating seniors.

With MPC’s academic year scheduled to open in August, our timeline for rolling out the scholarship is already underway:

2026 marks a banner year for the ABC Foundation as we celebrate our 25th Founding Anniversary. Our mission remains steadfast: providing our scholars with the love, concern, and the comprehensive tools they need to succeed—extending our support far beyond the semestral stipend.

To launch our anniversary year, we successfully conducted our Career Readiness Workshop in partnership with the Telstra Foundation. To ensure our scholars received personalized attention, sessions were held on January 28th and February 11th at the Telstra office, located at the Zuellig Building in Makati.

Professional Growth and One-on-One Mentoring

Held from 8 AM to 3 PM, these intensive workshops were designed to bridge the gap between academic life and professional success. Our scholars dived deep into high-level professional development, focusing on two critical areas:

Strategic Resume Building: Scholars received one-on-one mentoring on how to compose highly convincing resumes that stand out to recruiters.
Live Mock Interviews: Our scholars gained first-hand experience through mock interview sessions with Telstra mentors, receiving immediate feedback on their performance and professionalism.

Despite the number of attendees, every scholar received full, hands-on attention from dedicated Telstra volunteers, ensuring a personalized learning experience for all.
Strengthening Partnerships through Corporate Generosity

These workshops provided more than just practical knowledge; they allowed our scholars to witness firsthand the power of corporate generosity. At ABC Foundation, we take great pride in reaching out to and collaborating with generous partners like the Telstra Foundation to provide our students with a glimpse into a supportive corporate environment.

Looking Ahead
While financial aid provides the opportunity to study, career readiness ensures our scholars are prepared to lead in the workforce. This workshop is only the first on our list of initiatives for our 25th year. We remain committed to seeking out opportunities that empower our scholars to grow, learn, and excel.

Achieving professional success takes a mixture of dedication, clear strategy, and the right guidance. Under the leadership of mentor ABCf President, Sir Jeri Orlina, CPA, the ABCf Accounting Scholars Mentorship Program is turning that vision into reality for Batch 1.

Formed late last year, the group consists of nine ambitious scholars, seven of whom are set to take the Certified Public Accountant Licensure Examination (CPALE) in May 2027. Having already completed two face-to-face mentoring sessions, the cohort is united around one clear goal: a 100% CPALE pass rate.

To hit this target, Sir Jeri and the scholars mapped out specific timelines supported by a disciplined study and review regimen. Outside of formal meetings, their active group chat serves as a daily hub for study tips, practical advice, and encouraging booster messages to keep momentum high.

It will take 18 months of focused, rigorous hard work, but the payoff is clear—a lifetime of professional success and a brighter future once they cross the finish line. ABCf remains incredibly proud to support these scholars on their journey to becoming licensed CPAs!
